Why Moss Is Worth Clearing

Moss and algae are more than a cosmetic problem. Thick moss holds rainwater against the tiles, sheds into the gutters and blocks them, and in winter the trapped water freezes and flakes the surface off the tile. We clear the growth by hand and with low-pressure soft washing rather than blasting the tiles, clear the gutters while we are up there, and can treat the roof to slow the moss coming back.

How We Do It

Assessment
We check the condition of the tiles first, because a fragile old roof needs a gentler approach.

Moss is removed by hand and soft washing, working down the roof so nothing is driven under the tiles.

While the access is up, we clear the gutters and downpipes that the moss has blocked.

Where wanted, we apply a treatment that slows the moss and algae returning.

Will jet washing damage my roof?

High-pressure washing can strip the surface off tiles and force water under them, so we use low-pressure soft washing and hand tools instead. It is gentler and it lasts.

How often should a roof be cleaned?

It depends on how shaded and damp the roof is. Many houses are fine every few years. We will give you an honest view rather than book you in more often than you need.

Do you clear the gutters too?

Yes. Clearing the gutters is part of the job, because most of the moss we remove would otherwise end up blocking them.

Do you use chemicals on the roof?

Only for the optional treatment. The clean itself is hand tools and low-pressure water. Where you want a biocide afterwards, we apply a standard roof treatment at the dilution the manufacturer specifies.

What about the garden underneath?

We sheet up below the working area and bag the moss as we clear it, so borders and paths are not left covered. Any treatment goes onto the roof itself rather than being sprayed about.
